Democracy Corps: Obama's Youth Lead Still 60 - 33% (Mike Connery)
According to a new poll by Democracy Corps, Obama is maintaining his huge lead among young voters. This is contrary to reports by Zogby and others.
The poll also has lots of good information about young voters on the economy, as well as suggestions for postive, pro-Obama messages as well as attack against McCain on the issue.

KS-Sen: Senate Guru Interviews Jim Slattery (Senate Guru)
Following his resounding primary victory on Tuesday, former Congressman Jim Slattery of Kansas, now the official Democratic nominee for Senate in 2008, joined Senate Guru for an exclusive interview. Slattery spoke on a wide variety of topics, including: the key issues on the minds of Kansans that will shape the campaign, Slattery's record while in Congress, Pat Roberts' non-stop negative attack mode, Roberts' failure as Senate Intelligence Chairman, his work as a lobbyist, and the impact that John & Bobby Kennedy had on him as a youth.

CO-SEN: Schaffer says immigration reform impractical, decades off (em dash)
GOP hopeful Bob Schaffer, who drew fire this spring after excusing labor abuses and forced abortions in the Mariana Islands, stepped back into the immigration morass this week. Speaking about H2B visa shortages in Colorado's ski country to a friendly audience at a local Republican club Monday Schaffer said that we shouldn't expect immigration reform for decades because it's not practical.

McCain Touts Safety of Nukes at "China Syndrome" Plant (Jonathan Singer)
To show his support for nuclear power, John McCain toured the Enrico Fermi Nuclear Plant here today, comparing the safety of the plant to the Navy's warships he was stationed on.
"My experience with nuclear power goes back many years to being stationed onboard the USS Enterprise, the first nuclear powered aircraft carrier," he said. "I knew it was safe then, and I know it’s safe now."
The plant, 30 miles outside Detroit, hasn't always had the best safety record. One of the reactors had a partial meltdown in 1966, and although there were no injuries or release of radiation, the accident allegedly led to the term “China syndrome,” after an engineer said the nuclear reaction “could go all the way to China.”

Local Business Journal Won't Back Down From Obama-Hitler Comparison (Skylewalker)
Nebraska newspaper publisher Bob Hoig has run his third column in two weeks comparing Barack Obama to Adolf Hitler. After New Nebraska Network responded by running a list of Hoig's advertisers and asking readers to contact them with their outrage and disappointment, Hoig has used this latest column to stand defiant against these efforts "aimed at intimidation of the business community and the closing down of both newspapers." He declares, "The Midlands Business Journal and the Lincoln Business Journal are not caving in!"

ID-Sen: Only a 10-point race! (Senate Guru)
A new Research 2000 poll commissioned for Daily Kos shows ID-Sen to be a ten-point race! Former Congressman Larry LaRocco is a stone's throw from debate-ducking Jim Risch, at 42-32, with conservative rancher Rex Rammell scoring 5 points (and Rammell isn't the only right-of-center non-GOP choice with Libertarian Kent Marmon and independent Pro-Life on the ballot). The poll even sees LaRocco winning among independents, 38-35. In May, Senate Guru listed a dozen reasons why ID-Sen will be a very tight race. Help LaRocco keep the momentum going with a contribution via the Expand the Map! ActBlue page.

OR-SEN: Gordon Smith PERSONALLY took $10,000 from Ted Stevens - and so far, hasn't returned it. (karichisholm)
Senate Republicans (at least, the ones in tough races) are falling over themselves to donate to charity the campaign cash that Ted Stevens gave them.
In Oregon, Gordon Smith has given up the $10,000 his campaign received in 2007.
But here's what hasn't been reported anywhere yet -- in 2005 and 2006, Smith accepted two $5000 checks from Stevens to pay down his 1996 campaign debt. Debt that was owed to Smith personally. That's right: Smith took $10,000 from Stevens, and personally pocketed it. And I'm sure it's a coincidence that the second $5000 check was cut just days after Smith cast the deciding vote to drill for oil in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (breaking a 2002 campaign promise.) Lots more at BlueOregon.

IA-05: Trippi to work for Rob Hubler against Steve King (desmoinesdem)
Iowa Independent has the story: Joe Trippi's consulting firm will be raising money and crafting media messages for Rob Hubler, the Democratic candidate running against Congressman Steve King. The fifth district is the most Republican in Iowa, but by no means is it out of reach for Hubler. Not only does King embarrass Iowans on a regular basis, he doesn't even deliver for his constituents. Also, John McCain finished fourth in the Iowa caucuses and lacks a strong organization in the state.

From an investigative report on CO-04 PAC contributions from The Colorado Independent. In 2008, during an election year when Musgrave has worked to retool her image as more mainstream and in touch with an increasingly moderate electorate, the three-term incumbent has taken money from the most powerful members of conservative minority leadership in Washington. Five of Musgrave’s top 10 PAC donors are Republican colleagues in the House, including Minority Leader John Boehner, Republican Whip Roy Blunt and Deputy Whip Eric Cantor, who maintain PACs that have donated the maximum $10,000 to Musgrave.
